Elizabeth Spatz FDC Lucky WHAT: Disneyland in Anaheim, Walt Disney's original theme park which evolutionized the concept of "amusement parks" and other outdoor attractions, will celebrate its 40th Anniversary on Monday, July 17. Birthday cake, party hats and other surprises will be available at Disneyland during the day in recognition of Disneyland's "40 Years of Adventures" tradition. Among the Disney stars, past and present, in attendance will be Fess Parker ("Davy Crockett") and Irene Bedard (the voice of "Pocahontas"). The celebration will be highlighted at 11 a.m. with a "Time Castle" ceremony. Michael Eisner, Roy Disney and other senior Disney executives will place key items from Disneyland's 40th Anniversary year into a time capsule, to be buried for 40 years in the forecourt of Sleeping Beauty Castle. WHEN: Key events in the "40 Years of Adventures" celebration will include: 5 p.m. Sunday, July 16 Grand Ballroom, Disneyland Hotel 40TH ANNIVERSARY REUNION OF THE DISNEYLAND ALUMNI CLUB Invitees will include many veterans of Disneyland's 40 year history, including Bob Penfield and Ray Van De Warker, both of whom are still working at Disneyland having joined the "cast" in 1955. 7 a.m. Monday, July 17 Main Street, U.S.A.," Disneyland ANNIVERSARY "CAST MEMBER" PHOTO Thousands of Disneyland Cast Members, in their work costumes, will pose on Main Street for a special 40th Anniversary photo, to be placed in the "Time Castle" later that morning. The crowd will also record an "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning" Greeting for "CBS This Morning." Media interested in covering this early morning event should plan on arriving at Disneyland's Main Gate no later than 6:45 a.m. 11 a.m. Monday, July 17 Sleeping Beauty Castle, Disneyland THE "TIME CASTLE" CEREMONY Participants will include Michael Eisner; Roy Disney; Judson Green, President of Walt Disney Attractions; Paul Pressler, President of Disneyland Resort; Marty Sklar, President of Walt Disney Imagineering; Dick Nunis, Chairman of Walt Disney Attractions (and a "cast member" since 1955); John Hench, Vice President of Walt Disney Imagineering (and one of the original planners of Disneyland), Bob Penfield and Ray Van De Warker. 11:20 a.m. Monday, July 17 Immediately following the "Time Castle" ceremony, a guest celebrity will lead a Parkwide "Happy Birthday Disneyland" sing along. Throughout the day, visiting media will be give special opportunities to view "The Spirit of Pocahontas" stage show, The Lion King Celebration, FANTASMIC! and the Main Street Electrical Parade. 9:25 p.m. will mark the premiere of "Light Fantastic," a special light effects show which will be part of the Fantasy in the Sky fireworks for the remainder of the summer. In a related event at the Disney Gallery, New Orleans Square, Disney Art Editions will present "The Art of Animation Cels," featuring Disney artists hand inking and painting cels in honor of Disneyland's 40th Anniversary and the recent release of the animated film "Pocahontas." "The Art of Animation Cels" will be presented from 10 a.m. to noon and >from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, July 17, in the Disney Gallery. Lights, Camera, Action Including the Walt Disney Story, Costuming, Parades and the Animation Building at 8:20 a.m. or Disneyland Fairy Tales Including the Roundhouse, the Lilly Belle, Space Mountain Tower and the Haunted Mansion Ride Control at 1:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. The cost is $25 per person, not including Disneyland admission.
