File Report: Minnie's Moonlit Madness 1994 We arrived at said location at 7:12 and signed in. An interesting character handed us a black and white Mickey Mouse bag which we quickly discovered contained the following items. 1 - #2 pencil 1 - scan-tron sheet 1 - 6 foot white rope with 4 clips 1 1 - instruction sheet 8 2 1 - square piece of paper with compass indicating 8 positions: 7 + 3 1 - team number 6 4 1 - 'Answer for clue 1' sheet. 5 1 - 'NEW' Disneyland map and guidebook 1 - Long sleeve shirt, Minnie on the front, a compass, mermaids, and 8 strange symbols on the back. 1 - Book of old-time tickets, A through E. Stage 1: We were tied up!! Yes that's right, the clips and rope connected our team of 4 together and we were inseperable for the evening, except for bathroom stops of course. We assembled at the Videopolis stage and were entertained briefly my Minnie's Marauders, a gang of 3 engaging pirates who lead us in a round of 'Solve, solve, solve the clue' (row row row your boat). We were joined shortly thereafter by the lady herself, Minnie Mouse. Decked out in pink trenchcoat, ready for sleuthing, minnie and her happy pirate friend instructed us to get out our scan-trons and get ready for the trivia. Stage 2: We were interogated! There followed 50 questions, an interrogation of sorts, ranging from 'Which Disneyland attraction appeared BEFORE it's movie namesake?' to 'Which Disney executive and his family once lived on what is now the site of Pirates of the Caribbean?' Stage 3: We were off(way off)! When the questions were through, we were told the names of eight places to write down next to their numbers on the paper compass we got(ie Village Haus, Space Mountain, etc..). Then, after some skillful deduction(they told us) we found a number printed on the underside of the tag on the back of the shirt. This number, 3 in our case, was to be oriented North. We took our paper, oriented 3 to the North, placed it on the compass on the back of the T-shirt, and discovered each of the names we wrote on the paper pointed to a symbol on the shirt. Each symbol, we then discovered, represented a land in Disneyland. The name we wrote that actually resided in the land represented by the symbol was our first clue. We were off to Fantasyland and the Village Haus where we discovered the word 'Pirates' stenciled on the menu out front. Quickly jotting it down on our answer sheet we shuffled to the hub of main street to turn in our answer along with any ticket from our book. We chose an 'E' ticket(the best ones of course) and received our next clue. Stage 4: Art Class. The 8 by 8 grid was a jumbled mess. Each sqaure a tiny drawing in and of itself, with letters indicating that drawings proper position in a rearranged 8 by 8 grid. We redrew each square individually and were confronted with a strange drawing. A map of some sort, we deduced. Quick, get out the Disneyland guide book. Of course! It matches Fronteirland, and there's an X here! That must be Big Thunder Mountain! And we were off to thunder mountain to find the answer to yet another riddle. Stage 5: Math class Add up the addresses of the all the buildings on New Orleans and Royal Street. But wait, The Disney Gallery has no address. Hmmm. That's a '0' then. Okay, we have all the numbers, add them up. Wait, that number doesn't match any of the locations on this sheet. Quick, do it again. Okay, there's a number that matches. Quick, off to Tom Sawyers for the answer. And so the evening continued. Match the different Disney company logos with what they represent, add the numbers together, translate them to letters of the alphabet...ahhhhh! Nothing works! Quick, turn in the 'A' ticket. Those tickets you never use cuz they're only good for the Omnibus and horse drawn carriage on main street. What's this? A treasure hunt at Pirates of the Carribean? Before we knew it we were on the boats and a sheet of paper was thrust in our hands as we floated out into the Bayou. "You'll meet some strange characters along the way," we were warned. "Listen to what they say and write down everything with the sound '8' in it." Down one waterfall, down another. The lights are on in the Pirates of the Carribean, we could see everything. Then suddenly, from the captains quarters, out jumps a pirate. He tells us some said story and how we are to 'Educ8' others. Ah! an '8'. We write it down. Next we are boarded by a Dinsey cop, scolding us for sneaking into the park after closing and riding the rides. Up ahead, another fair maiden to be auctioned off with 'the red-head'. And then there's a drunk pirate with the pigs. Only he's real. And finally, a fourth pirate in the cell next to the others, trying to lure the key from the dog. "I'm humili8ed!" he yells as our boat drifts by. We've heard it all now and write down the words. Each word has a shaded letter on our sheet. E...I...G...H...T! Eight. That damn '8'. Actually we figured out 'EIGHT' after the first clue, but hey, we were on the ride and there was nothing we could do! Stage 6: Time's up! Damn, not enough time. Oh well. Back to Videopolis where the awards were handed out. We did okay considering we had all hard clues. Some teams had all easy(worth fewer points) and some had a mixture of easy and hard. We never did get to fish off the Pirates of the Carribean bridge, or hunt for things in the Mad Tea Party with Alice, or do card tricks with the scoundrals on the streets of New Orleans Square, or walk the maze by It's A Small World, but we did have a lot of fun, raise a lot of money for some great charity's, "Save the Seals" project and the Human Society of Anahiem. I came home with a great shirt and a pin to stick on it and lots of memories of Disneyland after closing. Wish you could all have been there! -Scott sdk@asdi.saic.com
